<!> Note: Fusion Live is moving to its own wiki soon at fusionlive.ogu*.com. When this move is complete, this page will be taken down and replaced with a simpler over view and a link to the new wiki. I want that moin-moin theme - OasisGames

Fusion Live

This is the working page for the Compiz Live CD, dubbed Fusion Live. It will feature the inclusion of the newest video drivers from nVidia and ATI, all of the Compiz-Fusion plugins - including development plugins such as Freewins, Screensaver, and Wiimote - a full Compiz Fusion theme based on the one created by RYX and implemented by iXce - and a complete set of Compiz-ready applications including patched movie players. To join the discussion and help make FusionLive a reality, please participate on the forum and through our IRC channel: #fusion-live on irc.freenode.net.

Fusion Live

Fusion Live will be based on Slax with GNOME 2.22.

Theme

The Fusion Live theme is dark and uses the Murrine engine. Elements are be based on the forum theme and include shiny black surfaces with rich pastel blues, reds, and greens. Icons should be based on the Tango set, but color changes are requested to make them fit better with the theme. Proper RGBA support is requested and should be included in Screenlets Manager and CCSM as well as any other applications added to the CD. A light version of the main theme as well as a secondary (unrelated) theme will be made available through the Emerald Theme Manager and GNOME Appearance Preferences. The dark and light theme will be enabled in the two default user profiles, the secondary theme will be made available in the 'Custom' profile. Here is the current theme, based on the home page skin:

http://fusionlive.ogunderground.com/gtk/cf_dark.png

It will also be available in blue, green, and orange (a la the forum, wiki, and planet), rather than just the red shown. Please post any mockups or completed themes you may have here. Emerald themes, GTK settings, backgrounds, etc. would be appreciated.

You can download the theme from Gnome-Look.org.

Wallpapers

The following wallpapers are from a set of four based on the icons designed by Graphreak for use with the Compiz-Fusion project. They are the newest incarnations of the icon set and include a green decorator icon and a yellow settings icon where the border around the check mark is clearly visible.

Launchers

The default desktop will use a set of Launchers powered by Screenlets most likely positioned in the upper left (contrary to the images shown above). This placement allows for maximum compatibility with different screen sizes.

Applications

Name

Notes

Compiz

Include all plugins from both the standard set (-main and -extra) and the development plugins

Screenlets

Use newest branch at time of packaging. Currently 1.0. Should come with extra Screenlets from Gnome Look

Emerald

With appropriate themes

AWN

As an option for the dock. This is considered the lighter option.

Cairo-Dock

A heavier alternative to AWN with more effects and customization. Included in the hardcore profile.

GNOME

Use GNOME as the desktop environment for simplicity reasons. Patch Nautilus for Wallpaper support and possibly for RGBA support.

MPlayer

Patched for composited and transformed XV video.

Extra Content

The Live CD should include a large collection of Compiz and Compiz Fusion artwork, such as SVG logos and wallpapers.

Boot Menu

Include a standard Live CD boot menu with Compiz logos. Splashy will be used for the boot splash and will display the standard C-F logo with a red progress bar upon start up.

Video Drivers

To ensure maximum compatibility with the newest graphics hardware, drivers from nVidia and ATI should be included. By the time of final packaging of the first release of Fusion Live, official ATI drivers should reach a better state when running under AIGLX (a recent release has allowed the use of Compiz with the drivers under AIGLX, but it is still buggy). Open source alternative drivers should also be included - nv and radeon - and should be presented in a menu before starting gdm.

Default Compiz Configuration

Compiz should come preset with the following plugins:

  • Cube - Skybox?

  • Cube Addon - Reflections, Cylinder

  • Cube Caps - Compiz Fusion logos, for best transparency handling

  • 3d - With border colors to match theme

  • Ezoom

  • Water

  • Firepaint - with pastel red flames?

  • Animation - undecided

  • Shift switcher - Cover or Flip?

  • Expo - With the new Curve style

  • Magnifier, Show mouse

  • Wobbly Windows

  • Window Previews

  • Scale

  • Wallpaper - with 4 custom Compiz wallpapers

The following may be included in the default set up:

  • Freewins

  • Scale Addons + Window Title Filter - Depends on whether we want the added functionality

  • Fade Desktop or Show Desktop - I prefer Fade

RGBA Patches

To improve the eye-candy of the Live CD, patches should be included for:

  • Nautilus - Has very few bugs with RGBA support. I've only found one problem with the Gnome Foot animation. See notice in next two entries.
  • CCSM - Is a lot more buggy, but rarely noticed when using it. If the same problems occur on nVidia as do with Screenlets, unload the patch if an nVidia card is detected.
  • Screenlets Manager - Already patched in 0.0.13, but removed due to problems with nVidia cards. If an nVidia card is detected, unload the patch be replacing the manager's Python files.
  • Screenlets - Already patched as of 0.0.13 and not removed. As no scrolling lists are use, this does not cause problems with nVidia. Patching the Screenlets core libraries the properties page to appear clear. Try to improve this patch!
